Eco Evolution Group

The eco program in Esh Winning Primary School aims to raise parents and pupils awareness of environmental issues and sustainable development issues with a focus on waste energy and school grounds.

The school presently hold the Eco Schools Silve Award. We are now working towards the Eco Schools Green Flag Award. The school is working closely with United Utilities.

The school has an eco committee made up of elected students from years 2 to 6, parents, governors and staff. The children take minutes in the meetings and take a lead role in the decision making. The committee has come up with an ECO code.

OUR ECO CODE

  • Turn off the lights when they are not needed
  • Look after your own environment
  • Report back to your classmates
  • Re-use clothes
  • When you have washed your hands turn off the tap
  • Recycle waste paper
  • Re-use envelopes
  • Turn off electrical appliances when not in use
  • Re-use things
  • Close doors to save heat

Durham City Council has donated recycling bins which are in every classroom. We are all recycling paper.

We have bought litter pickers everyone has been helping the school be a better place.

We are switching the lights off more often than before the committee was formed.

The years 3 and 4 will be working with outside agencies to redevelop and re-landscape our school grounds.

We raised money for the infants to go to the wind farm.

To help us remember to recycle our waste we look for this symbol around the school.
