About the school:-
Esh Winning Primary School serves the children of the village of Esh Winning in the Deerness Valley. We are a co-educational county primary school with a nursery unit for children of all abilities from 3-11 years of age. We are located approximately six miles from the historic city of Durham. The village was once a mining community, which is set in a picturesque rural environment.

County of Durham School Benevolent Fund:-
The criteria for eligibilty for the award of a grant from the fund:
- Must be resident in County Durham (excluding the boundaries of Darlington Borough Council);
- Child must be of compulsory school age (Reception to Year 11);
- Parent must be in receipt of:
- Income Support; or
- Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance; or
- Employment and Support Allowance (Income Related); or
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999; or
- Families in receipt of Child Tax Credit will also qualify provided that:
- they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit; and
- their annual income, as assessed by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, does not exceed £16,040 as at 6 April 2009 (subject to annual review); or
- Guaranteed element of state Pension Credit.
Applicants can receive assistance from the Fund twice during their school life (once during Primary education and once during Secondary). The grant in each instance is up to £35 towards the purchase of a winter coat or a pair of shoes. (An electronic database is maintained to record all grants awarded.)
