Welcome to our Nursery
Mrs Richardson is our teacher, Miss Hutchinson and Miss Perkins are our teaching assistants.
Esh Winning’s Foundation Unit’s educational approach emphasises active participatory learning, where learners have direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events, and ideas. In our unit children’s interests and choices are at the heart of our ethos. Through interactions with the world and the people around them we encourage children to construct their own knowledge and ideas. Through the Plan-Do-Review process we support them in taking their first step in the learning process by helping them make choices and following through on their plans and decisions. Practitioners offer physical, emotional, and intellectual support. Our priority is to support active learning, practitioners expand children’s thinking with diverse materials and nurturing interactions. Through supporting and gently extending children’s current level of thinking and understanding (scaffolding), practitioners help children gain knowledge and develop creative problem-solving skills and to solve conflict through the 6 steps of conflict resolution.
Esh Winning’s Foundation Stage Unit follows a comprehensive educational approach that strives to help children develop in all areas. Our goals for young children are:
- To learn through active involvement with people, materials, events, and ideas
- To become independent, responsible, and confident — ready for school and ready for life
- To learn to plan many of their own activities, carry them out, and talk with others about what they have done and what they have learned
- To gain knowledge and skills in important academic, social, and physical areas
Through these learning goals children will build upon their experiences and learn through a range of focused activities, child initiated activities and structured play opportunities. Children experience going to the garden carrying out Forest schools activities as well as going on many visits such as to the shops, beach, and farm. We also encourage many visitors (Police, Firemen, Nurse, Dentist, Chef and Authors) to come into school to talk to the children inspiring their play opportunities.
Over the year we provide a broad and rich curriculum developed around the children in our groups; popular child initiated themes covered are: Ourselves, Seasons, Dragons, Castles, Prince and Princesses, People who help us, Dinosaurs, Let’s be builders, Superheroes, Under the sea and Lifecycles. We also have a book of the month, ‘The Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Bean Stalk, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and Charlie’s Superhero Underpants’ are just to name a few.
Nursery have had exciting fun learning this week. At the beginning of the week we have been Baby bear from ‘Whatever Next’ and flew to the moon. We have explored friendships, kindness and how to be a good friend for Anti-bullying week. Then on Friday we had a very special visitor Pudsey, who saw all the wonderful activities we were doing. He loved our Pudsey masks.
We explored different cultures and found out what it would be like to celebrate Diwali. We created Rangoli patterns, we danced to Punjabi music, we tasted Indian cuisine, tried on Saris and we practiced our cutting skills by cutting out different Rangoli shapes.
